Aniruddha soe Mondal/ Abandoned

Aniruddha soe Mondal is a visual art practitioner. He has worked in various mediums like painting, printmaking, sculpture, and site-specific installation.

‘’I come from a coal mining area. Since birth, I have lived with the sights, sounds, and struggles of this landscape. A village of 0I chiki tribe situated in coalmine areas for several decades. They have already got a notice period for making an open-cast coal mine. The coalmine agency had declared to provide a new place for 0I chiki tribe for their reestablishment. This event has deeply affected me. The 0I chiki tribe depends on illegal coal, which is their only source of livelihood. As the 0I chiki tribe is being shifted to a newer location, they want to preserve a large amount of coal for their sustainability and livelihood. In my artwork, I have tried to capture the story of 0I chiki tribe and their memories while they are leaving their ancestral settlements.‘’
