Chuu Wai is an emerging feminist artist from Myanmar. While her work is focused on Myanmar culture, currently she is in exile from the country following the Military coup of February 2021 and the insecurity that this led to for artists such as herself who paint controversial art. After experiencing the Military coup and political repression in Myanmar, she had originally planned to settle in Ukraine, but events forced her to abandon her newly built studio in Kyiv and currently she is living in Paris, trying to establish stability as a new immigrant while she continues her artistic career and using her art as a form of activism and empowerment.
