Saber Sutphin/ B&W Photography

Francis Saber Sutphin was born in southern California. He lives and works in Oakland, CA and currently maintains a two-dimensional art practice of translating his impressions of the maze of California's agricultural industry and memories of place into works on paper, pages of books and collage. Saber is a self-taught photographer. He takes photos in motion, often from a train. His charcoal and ink drawings often include remnants and transfers of his photographs and found media. Saber's video work features a rearrangement of place, through observational study and intuitive non-representation. His expanded cinema project has accompanied live musical performance in venues in California and New York.
