Giel Louws/ Figurative Art

Giel Louws was born in Zeeland, the Netherlands, in 1975. He studied at the Academies of Bruges, Belgium, and Kampen, The Netherlands. Since then, he has practiced his art as an independent artist. He made many national and some international exhibitions. He did residencies in Sweden and the Czech Republic.

In his paintings, Giel Louws researches the medium of painting by exercising it, or deconstructing it, and then assembling it again. It is a combination of figurative and formal elements to find new meaning. His art combines autobiographical elements and more formal elements.
