Julie Baum/ Silenced

Julie Baum is a French-born contemporary artist based in London. Working primarily in pencil, archival ink, and gold leaf, she creates highly detailed drawings in which birds, botanical forms, and restrained symbolic elements serve as carriers of emotion. Her practice explores connection, vulnerability, protection, transformation, and belonging. Rather than constructing explicit narratives, she is drawn to quieter moments: the distance between two figures, a suspended movement, an exchanged gaze, or the sense that something important remains unspoken. Julie graduated from Central Saint Martins, and her earlier creative practice was featured in Wallpaper's Graduate Directory. Her background across art and design continues to inform the precision and material sensitivity of her work. Through increasingly reduced compositions and deliberate negative space, she creates images that feel intimate rather than illustrative — spaces in which stillness itself can communicate.
