Lewis Andrews moved to Leeds in 2016 to study a BA(Hons) in Fine Art at Leeds Arts University. After graduating in 2019, Lewis continued to work in Leeds. In 2022, Lewis completed his Postgraduate Fine Arts Degree also at Leeds Arts University, graduating with a Masters Degree in the Creative Arts. During his Master’s Degree, Lewis’s practice became deeply focused on the methodology of translating information and data from sources within science into artworks. Lewis has continued to work and build upon this method in his work, constructing a theory of working called ‘The Informative Encounter’.
‘My friend less than a mile away can feel the same light and heat from the same sun’.
The quarantined light series of photographs documents moments where, even when it seems that we’re all separated and isolated, we’re still connected to the delicate cycles of nature and the cosmos.
Every day, photons of light strike the Earth. After travelling roughly 92,955,934 miles in just over 8 minutes from the surface of the sun, this new light streams down onto my front garden and through my windows, touching down on our walls, floors, plants, and ourselves. Providing life-giving light and heat to nourish our souls and thoughts during times of great uncertainty. We’re all connected through these beams of light. Through our dear sun, unaffected at the time of the pandemic when these photographs were created, we were and still are deeply connected to each other and nature through these beams of light. Re-establishing a deep connection that everyone in these times can feel at different points across the globe, no matter the situation around us.
