Martin Gollan/ Self-Portrait

Martin Gollan is painter, printmaker and illustrator working in the north east of England. After three years learning about and making sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art in the early 80’s, Gollan returned to painting. Recently he has taken up printmaking and also providing illustrations for a number of left wing publications.

On one level these works are a record of sorts of my face. However, they are also a collection of loosely arranged marks following, not especially accurately, contours and shapes. There is no psychological intent to these self-portraits. They are instead more a akin to a disinterested topographical study, albeit a sloppily executed one.
