Mary Chris/ Minimalism

Mary Chris is a multidisciplinary designer, maker and storyteller working across jewellery, illustration and writing, each translating the same mythology into different languages. She has just completed a Master’s degree in Jewellery and Metal at the Royal College of Art, where she has developed her interdisciplinary approach to her practice. Her practice is strongly influenced by conversations she has and the worldbuilding that follows. Mary Chris creates objects that invite the audience to interact and create narratives of their own. Mary Chris explored the connection between the object and the home. With the saucer as her ‘home’ and the teacup as her ‘object ’, she took away the home from the object. Using kintsugi as inspiration for this piece, she slowly tore away the ‘home’, leaving just the ‘object’. Pieces of the ‘home’ return to the ‘object ’, sealed by gold-more valuable than it once was. With the flower display, Mary Chris expresses gratitude to people who have passed before she could give back. She uses bluebells for their beautiful meaning (humility, constancy, gratitude, and everlasting love) and their arch-shaped form. Various pieces are either earrings, brooches or pendants.
