Matthew Kenneth Hendricks, PhD (b. 1994) is a self-taught visual artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. A Coloured South African and part of the country’s “born-free” generation, his perspective is shaped by post-apartheid social and economic shifts, and by an ongoing search for belonging within them. His work moves between photography and digital collage, combining personal images with found and archival material. Through this process, he explores identity, memory, displacement, imagination, and the emotional tension of trying to locate oneself in a changing world. His practice is intuitive and experimental, using fragmentation and recombination as a way to make sense of personal and collective experience.
