Maureen Shafer/ Flow

Maureen Shafer is an up-and-coming Canadian artist whose watercolour paintings reflect her love of colour. Within the past few years she's also started playing with creating texture in her paintings.

Maureen has a very strong artistic vision which she likes to express in both her representational and non-representational paintings. One of the most important ways in which Maureen does the latter is by not making use of reference photos to create her artworks. She also loves to use various texture-creation methods in her paintings that focus on portraying abstraction and fantasy to help her express her artistic vision. Among the methods she uses to create texture are the use of granulating pigments combined with rough-pressed watercolour paper, salt, and sgrafitto. Whereas her representational artworks rely more on the use of planning, her fantasy artworks rely more on the use of intuition.
