Nigel Waters is a British abstract expressionist artist who holds a BA in Fine Art with First Class Honours from Plymouth University, United Kingdom. Representation is held by Artisan Gallery, Exmouth, UK.

This body of work presents a selection of abstract landscape and seascape-inspired paintings. The practice is a vibrant exploration of abstraction through the lens of Abstract Expressionism and Fauvism. Drawing on spontaneous and intuitive mark-making, each colour and gesture responds to the previous one, allowing the image to emerge organically as the painting develops.

The practice involves full immersion in the painted environment, responding directly to each mark and colour applied to the canvas. While colour theory informs decisions, intuition directs the process; each gesture becomes a spontaneous response shaped by the moment and often influenced by music within the studio.

The process is grounded in expressive, gestural mark-making, building layers of bold hues and dynamic forms. Influenced by the emotional immediacy of Abstract Expressionism and the vivid palettes of Fauvism, colour and texture are used to evoke the vitality and unpredictability inherent in image-making.

The work aims to invite viewers to experience the raw energy of creation and to engage with abstraction as a state of constant transformation. Each painting stands as a celebration of movement, colour, and the transformative power of the image, reflecting abstraction’s limitless capacity for change.
