Rhythm is one of the most fundamental forces through which we experience the world. It exists in music and movement, in nature and architecture, in repetition and interruption, in the pulse of daily life and the changing patterns of time. It can be immediate and energetic, or subtle and almost imperceptible.
This edition brings together an international selection of artists exploring the theme of Rhythm through painting, drawing, mixed media, digital art, photography, and contemporary objects.
Within visual art, rhythm can emerge through repeated forms, lines, colours, textures, gestures, or compositions. It can guide the eye across an image, create movement within stillness, or establish a sense of harmony and tension. Yet rhythm is also deeply connected to human experience—the cycles we live through, the patterns we repeat, and the moments when those patterns are unexpectedly disrupted.
The artists featured in this edition approach rhythm from diverse perspectives. For some, it is found in the repetition of visual elements; for others, it appears through movement, organic forms, urban environments, human gestures, or the transformation of materials. Photography can freeze a fleeting rhythm, painting can construct one, drawing can trace it, while digital and object-based practices can challenge our understanding of sequence, repetition, and movement.
Rhythm also creates a dialogue between the individual and the world. The rhythms of nature intersect with those of human existence; personal rituals meet collective patterns; memory repeats, changes, and sometimes breaks. Through artistic interpretation, these rhythms become visible, allowing us to recognise connections between seemingly unrelated moments, forms, and experiences.
Perhaps the power of rhythm lies in its ability to create movement without necessarily moving. A still artwork can suggest a pulse, a continuation, or a moment that exists beyond the frame. It can invite the viewer to follow, pause, return, and discover new patterns with every encounter.
This edition celebrates the many forms rhythm can take—from the quiet repetition of a line to the energetic movement of a composition, from natural cycles to human gestures, from familiar patterns to unexpected interruptions.
We invite you to enter these varied visual rhythms and experience how each artist transforms the concept into a personal language.
