Vincent Serbin/ Silenced

Vincent Serbin has explored the nature of surrealistic and abstract imagery through photography and painting for over four decades. During the past 20 years, his practice has focused primarily on abstract painting.

His work has been widely exhibited and has recently been featured in Abstractics: Journal of Nonrepresentational and Abstract Art, Layers (Noire Journal), Emerging Artists 2026 at Dodomu Gallery, the Abstract National Exhibition at Mark Arts Center, and the Cimarron National Works on Paper exhibition at the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art. He has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Serbin’s work investigates the nature of abstract reality—a mysterious territory where countless possibilities emerge, new realities take shape, and rational thinking is pushed to its limits. Through unfamiliar arrangements of color and form, he constructs alternative ways of being, navigating the space between soft focus and hard edges, as well as organic textures and architectural solidity. He views abstraction as a reflection of contemporary culture, capturing its chaotic, cartoon-like condition and its fascination with alternative realities. His paintings evoke both the ghostly presence of the past and the uncertainty of the future, inviting viewers into a realm where perception and imagination converge.
