Youjin Um/ Everyday Objects

Youjin Um is a metal craft designer drawn to the natural properties of cold metal materials, particularly the clear and translucent qualities of silver. The creative process begins with preliminary drawings, followed by paper modeling to visualize form and understand the intended physical presence. The drawings are then transferred onto silver plates, where carefully placed marks guide the development of each piece. Through the gradual process of piercing, shaping, and expressing forms one by one, the practice becomes a source of healing, relief, and happiness, transforming the physical act of metalwork into an exploration of emotional well-being and everyday life.
