Bob Keller/ Black & White Photography

Bob Keller is a professional landscape photographer based in Elk Grove, Northern California. With over two decades of experience in both film and digital photography, his work explores themes of isolation, impermanence, and the sublime presence of nature. He favors the disciplined process of medium format film and traditional darkroom techniques to render compositions steeped in quietude, often capturing the remote landscapes of the American West. His goal is to create images that transcend documentation, inviting viewers into a deeper emotional connection through tonal nuance, compositional stillness, and the presence of natural light.

Before The Storm On Convict Lake

This fine art black-and-white photograph captures a fleeting yet powerful moment on Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra during springtime. A single fishing boat floats in still water, dwarfed by the massive, glacially-carved granite peaks and threatened by a brewing storm to the west. Taken in 2012 on a Mamiya 645 medium format camera using Ilford HP5+ film, the image emphasizes contrast and depth—light falling on the steep mountain face while clouds coil like smoke above. The photograph speaks to solitude in the face of nature’s scale and unpredictability, evoking both serenity and suspense in one frame
