Eliza Evans is a self-taught jeweller whose practice is build upon training in sculpture and ceramics, studies of mythology through a BA in Classics, and South East Asian heritage.
Previously focusing on commercial work, her current practice now explores ideas of connection, the self and making concepts tangible through materiality. Her ongoing project, 'Ideas of Imperfection' (working title) seeks to bring together unlikely art forms (jewellery, performance, sound, photography, words) with the starting point as the concept of kintsugi. Approaching the jewellery-making process as an analogy for the self, she considers the process of creating - carving, sandcasting, gem setting and 'embellishing' cast pieces to highlight imperfections, as a process of perfection vs imperfection, control vs spontaneity and freedom vs agency.
Alongside this project, Eliza makes bespoke work and facilitates workshops.
