Kirsi Vahtera/ Mystical World

I am a Finnish artist, sculptor and master blacksmith from Lahti, Finland. Graduated as designer from LAB University of Applied Sciences and master blacksmith, Axxel, Karjaa 2013. I find inspiration for my work from Finnish nature, history and folklore. My work is influenced by the Kalevala epic and its symbolism and Finnish mythology - and the link between them.

During 2021-2024 I have worked with The Crownation-series that includes forged metal crowns, jewelry and photography. This exhibition has been in 5 galleries in Finland, one gallery in Netherlands and will continue on its way to several galleries. Series now includes 14 crowns and there will be two more in next exhibition .

My work has been on display at the International startup and tech event Slush 2017 and I was the main decorative/set designer artist of Tuska open air-Festival now for 4 years. I was nominated as an art blacksmith of the year 2020 by The Artist Blacksmith’s Association of Finland. 2022 I had 12 exhibitions in Finland and 2023 11 exhibitions.. The most important exhibition of the year 2023 was at summer in Juminkeko, which is one of the biggest national centres dedicated to the Kalevala. It aims at preserving, treasuring and spreading the cultural heritage related to the Finnish national epic. The name of the exhibition was ”Precious daughters of Kalevala” which, along with the women of the Kalevala, deals with equality and mythical femininity. Currently working with own exhibitions, several art groups and educational culture event.
