Vasil Akulov/ Black & White | Shades of Meaning

His work explores the silent and fragile relationship between humans and nature. He uses minimalism, black-and-white contrast, and symbolic absences to reflect on ecological tension—particularly the disappearance of animal species. In his series Red Book: Animals, he creates stark silhouettes of endangered creatures, often removing the forms of their offspring. These voids serve as quiet spaces, offering a reflection on what may still be saved. Through both painting and hand-painted ceramic tiles, he aims to create works that are emotionally resonant yet formally restrained. He is drawn to monochrome because it reduces distraction and sharpens focus—it makes absence visible. He believes art should not only show the world as it is but also ask what it could still become. His monochrome compositions are not about endings; they are a beginning.
