Lynn Pan/ Dreamscapes

Lynn Pan is a cross-media video artist, born in China and currently based in London. The artistic practice is deeply shaped by Simone de Beauvoir’s philosophy on woman as the “Other” and the construction of female subjectivity, with a sustained focus on the philosophical dimensions of women’s agency and identity. Through symbolic and emotionally resonant visual narratives, the work explores the intricate tensions between gender, emotion, and self-awareness at the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures.

Working with multi-dimensional video installations and spatial storytelling, the practice investigates the subtle relationships between individuals and society, as well as between humans and their environments. Existentialist reflections on freedom, choice, and the meaning of life form an essential conceptual foundation. Soft Morandi-inspired palettes and delicate lighting are frequently employed to create immersive visual experiences that occupy the space between reality and dream, imbuing each work with both poetic and emotional depth.

The practice challenges traditional cultural frameworks surrounding female representation and reveals the fluidity and multiplicity of identity within the context of globalization. Through these creations, audiences are invited into a profound dialogue on self-awakening, gender politics, and cultural hybridity.
